A Model AIDS/HIV Integrated Programme for Uganda

The Uganda AIDS/HIV Integrated Model District Programme (AIM) was a five-year initiative funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The Programme was devised in consultation with the Ministry of Health, Uganda AIDS Commission, international agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), community-based organizations (CBOs), and those affected by HIV/AIDS.

Through the AIM Programme, JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc., in partnership with World Education, promoted the expansion of critical HIV/AIDS and TB services, working with its partners at the community, district and national levels to enhance HIV/AIDS service delivery in 16 districts. This was to ensure a comprehensive community response to HIV/AIDS, including critical, integrated HIV/AIDS/TB services. At the national level, AIM provided technical and financial support for development of HIV/AIDS/TB policies, guidelines and training manuals in-line with government initiatives. AIM awarded grants to national partners to strengthen their capacity to support service delivery in the districts. The primary focus of AIM, however, was at a district level. AIM supported and strengthened district HIV/AIDS/TB and community services by providing technical assistance, training, grants, and equipment to public and civil society organizations.
